Who remembers going to the cinema to watch the 1994 release of Disney's 'The Lion King'. I was 6 years old and the memory of it is still etched in my mind's eye, the film was that impactful. It had to do with the beautiful, larger-than-life characters; the rich, vibrant colours; the powerfully dramatic music and way the film swept you away to an exotic world on the African plains.
In keeping with the recent trend for photorealistic remakes, which make use of the most cutting edge technology to create a visual spectacle that could almost be real; 'The Lion King' is currently undergoing a magical transformation, ready for cinematic release in June of next year.
As you would expect, the cast sports a star studded list of some of the créme de la créme of A-list celebrity. Queen Bey (Beyonce) is the voice of Nala, with the mighty Donald Glover (Childish Gambino) as Simba. Timon and Pumba are to be voiced by Billy Eichner and Seth Rogan respectively, and James Earl Jones who played Mufasa in the 1994 edition is returning to his throne for the 2019 offering.
All this has us very excited for one day in June of next year, when we will be sat in a cinema somewhere soaking up that dramatic opening sequence; 25 years older, but no less enthralled by the enchanting world of Disney animation, in all of its photorealistic glory.
