Everyone should take a stand for the causes that they believe need support. However, there is something particularly powerful about public figures, figures that so many people admire and look up to, doing so.
Taylor Swift has shown this most recently.
Through taking a stand for the LGBTQ community, the 10-time Grammy winner and the artist with the most top 10 debuts on the Hot 100, will inevitably create a movement, a positive push for change.
To her millions of fans, Taylor Swift said that she is sending her 'love' and 'respect' to members of the LGBT community that feel as though they can't come out due to the stigma in their society.
On the stage of Chicago's Soldier Field to mark Pride Month's close, the singer made an impassioned speech.
"It's very brave to be vulnerable about your feelings in any sense, in any situation" she told the audience on Saturday night.
"But it's even more brave to be honest about your feelings and who you love.
"You know that that might be met with adversity from society."

"So this month, and every month, I want to send out my love and respect to everybody who has been brave enough to be honest about the way they feel, to live their lives as they are, as they feel they should be, as they identify.
"And this is a month where I think we need to celebrate how far we've come, but we also need to acknowledge how far we still have left to go.
"I want to send my love and respect out to everybody who in their journey hasn't yet felt comfortable enough to come out, and may you do that in your own time."
"May we end up in a world where everyone can live and love equally and no one has to be afraid to be vulnerable and say how they feel.
"When it comes to feelings and when it comes to love and searching for someone to spend your whole life with, it's all just really really delicate."
Of course, LGBT fans have been largely moved by Swift's great declaration of love. It's rarely common for big artists to make little gestures and nods towards LGBT people in their audience, though much more scarce for public figures to really make a stand, and a strong one at that.
Jessica @JessicaMDeLaRue Taylor Swift has always done little things to let the LGBT community know she loves us but she has never been as loud before as she has been this era and seeing her be so vocal about it and really truly acknowledging and supporting us makes me love her so much more than before.

Having performed at the BBC's Biggest Weekend last month, the singer is presently on her Reputation tour.
With the six-song, 28 minute performance primarily focused on the singer's 2017 album, Taylor's Swansea performance can be regarded as a stripped back copy of Reputation.
Taylor takes her tour to Ireland and the UK in June, with around six shows in Dublin, Manchester and London.
Given her feeling-ful speech, we've got the inkling that Tay won't stop here with her influence, but will keep on using her platform to push for change in societal attitudes towards the LGBT community.
