Recipe: Homemade Mexican Spice Mix

In Atmo's opinion homemade is always best. While packet seasoning can seem great if you are in a hurry or not sure what goes with what, they are also often full of nasty preservatives.

This easy peasy, natural spice mix can be made in minutes and can be stored in the cupboard to be used again and again. Not only will you have much fresher tasting food, you will also lose the additives while saving a few pennies.

The mix can be used as a base to add some panache to any Mexican dish or on its own for seasoning fajitas and tacos.

We haven't made the seasoning mix too spicy so that the whole family can enjoy it. But if you prefer your grub a little hotter, add a little chilli powder or alternatively we recommend using fresh chillies and coriander when you are making the dish.


  • 3 teaspoons Cumin
  • 2 teaspoons Paprika
  • 1 teaspoons Onion powder
  • 1 teaspoons Garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoons Cayenne pepper
  • 2 teaspoons Chili Powder
  • 2 teaspoons Salt
  • 1 teaspoons Pepper
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons Oregano


1. Mix all of the dry ingredients together in a bowl making sure that no liquid gets to them and they remain completely dry.

2. Transfer ingredients into an airtight container and store in a cool dry place.
