How to Draw Your Own Mandala Design

Mandala is the Sanskrit word for 'circle' and is a pattern used to represent the universe in Hindu and Buddhist symbolism. They are aesthetically very pleasing and are a deeply relaxing, sometimes meditative, design to draw.

There are lots of places where a painted mandala creates a beautiful effect; such as an outside wall, or on pebbles around the garden. Otherwise stick to a notepad and your favourite pens or pencils and lose yourself in the hypnotic beauty of your own personal mandala design.

Once you've mastered the technique you can really have some fun with these and draw until your heart's content. Concentrating in this way has a similar effect on the brain to meditation and can effectively reduce feelings of stress and anxiety. You also end up with a piece of art that is visually stunning; so it makes the perfect design for a card, or painted as a decoration on things, a mug for example.
